We all have heard, “Time is Money,” but have you heard “Time is Happiness…...” Thanks to Surf Excel Matic Detergent, this is now possible. When I came across this contest, I wanted to write something different, something that will impress everyone, something that’s interesting and unique. But then I thought, what I am going to write and what I am going to do in those 2 extra hours, will it be practical…?? Then I asked myself, what is that one thing which I love to do, which makes me really happy, which brings that kick-ass attitude in me, which makes me feel on top of the world, which brings a Smile on my face, which lets the heaviness of my normal day Life to sink and allow me to live lightly for some time, where my imagination takes center stage, where my thoughts just wander wherever they want to without any restrictions. All these questions lead me to write specifically about my regular outing with my college mates every Sunday evening.
I love catching up with my friends. Every Sunday evening I go out to meet my college mates or rather bench mates at a place called Sankey Tank in the Heart of Bangalore. It’s a great place. This place is around 11 kms from my house so it takes around half an hour on my bike. There are two things to this Sunday Evening outing. First, the bike ride and then the meeting. I love riding my bike and to travel around 11 kms and too on a National Highway, make it even more joyful. I am happy that my house is around 11 kms so my ride becomes more joyful. The best part is that while riding I come across so many things, the sunrays piercing through the trees, those cars and bikes, expressions of people at the traffic signal, the lighter side of people when they are all having a great time, a family of four going on a two wheeler (India would be nothing if this is not there…:P) that breeze, you see a lot of wonderful stuff if we can just observe what is happening around us…..all these things makes for a perfect ride for me.
About the meeting. When we meet we discuss everything….politics, current economic situation, Marriage, live in relationships, trip planning, starting our own venture, why people change, how beautiful the sunset is, just about anything and everything. For 3 hours (from 6 pm to 9 pm) I meet them. After that, we all go to have chats at our regular place where we are regular customers for the past 6 years. In those 3 hours, we spend some great quality time. I can’t think of a better way to utilize those 2 hours. On some Sundays we try new restaurants, going to a new place for dinner. While on my back on the bike, I will be wondering as to when the next Sunday will be coming. If everyone waits for Friday (being the last working day of the week) to come, I will be waiting for Sunday to come….:).

How it all started. While we were in college it was easy as we would meet up every day. But after college, everyone would be going their own way and some way we had to find time to meet regularly. Because, we knew if we didn’t keep in touch then it would be very difficult to meet. So we said to ourselves that no matter what, every Sunday evening, we try our best to meet up and have a great time. It has become so regular that our respective parents never call us anywhere else because they know if it’s a Sunday evening, then it’s already fixed…so kind of first priority here…..:).Till now it is going great. And guess what, we have been meeting regularly for the past 6 years. It feels great. We spend almost half of our Life with our friends either face to face or chatting or calling or through social networks. So, considering that I get two 2 hours extra, it would be a heaven for me, can’t express it through words. So it’s fully worth it. Whatever I do in those 2 extra hours I get, it would be a boon for me, just so Priceless. So, 2 hours of Happiness is the thing for me…..:).

ReplyDelete:) That is so cool Prashanth. I wish I could do that, unfortunately, we all moved around cities so much....sometimes I really fancy, wish I was born in Bangalore..
ReplyDeleteProbably in Bangalore, if we had those 2 hours extra.. We would be in traffic Prashanth.. :-D
ReplyDelete@Chintan: I can understand how difficult it is when friends move to different cities. My friends are all still in Bangalore, so it is possible to meet them regularly. But anyways, its just a matter of time before some of them move out. Hope I can keep in touch with them even after they move out.
ReplyDelete@Sahana: Hehehehe....agreed, but not only in Bangalore anywhere you go in India, traffic is the main problem. May be its little more when compared to other cities..:)
