I Tried

When tears rolled down your eyes,
I tried to wipe it
When you needed a shoulder to lean on,
I tried to lend mine
When people mocked at you,
I tried to defend you
When negative thoughts clouded your mind,
I tried to make you look at the positive side of things
When you shared your sorrows,
I tried to sympathize with you
When you stayed far away,
I felt closer to you
When you felt there was none,
I tried to be that someone you needed
When you wanted to express your feelings,
I tried to suppress mine to listen to you
I may not be the ideal one you are looking for,
But with all the flaws I have my friend, I tried.

"I" refers to each one of us who tried to be the best one for their friend, yet the other person didn't notice it or acknowledge it. You know how hard you tried but a friend of yours took you for granted. Every one would have faced this situation that at some point in time, you gave it all for your friend, even at your own cost, just to ensure that your friend stays happy or doesn't feel lonely.

  1. Ahh lovely words! and the concept of 'I' as each one of us. Brilliant!

If your friend doesn't value you, is he/she really your friend?

    1. Thanks Jenny..:) You know I have a feeling that Friends Forever concept is slowly losing its relevance these days. Referring the 'I' thing to each of us is because each one of us would have faced this situation. If they don't value, they are not your friend...:)

  5. Yes Prashanth. I've been there too. But as they say, life goes on. We mature with age. And as Jenny said, is that person really your friend?

  9. Very familiar feeling. Yes drains out a lot of energy from you over a friendship that you later declare as a misjudgment. sucks!
